Description
Dr. Allan S. Thomas is a Salt Lake City native who pursued a comprehensive education that extends beyond what's expected of a dentist. He was inspired to become a dentist after a rollerskating accident fractured his tooth as a child. He appreciated the care he received from his dentist then, and he aims to provide that same high standard of care to his patients now.

I was born in Salt Lake City, went to the University of Utah for my undergrad, and then I attended Oregon Health Sciences University to go to dental school. After dental school, I opted to do a 2-year residency in Connecticut. There were a lot of things that dental school, as great as it is, they still can't cover everything. I wanted some extra training on full mouth reconstruction and a lot of other procedures that were up and coming at the time.

My wife and I, we decided to move back to Salt Lake City, and that's where I started my practice from scratch in downtown of Salt Lake City. Then in 2002, moved the practice to our current location.

My wife and I were very active. We do hiking. We did the Grand Canyon this year. My idea of just a wonderful, great day is going skiing with all my family, my kids and my grandkids. That means so much to me. I love that.

I guess the thing that happened to me when I was younger that made a big difference was, I was roller-skating with a neighbor friend of mine, and it was an accident. He had hit me from the back and I fell over, and I hit the driveway with my mouth and fractured my front tooth. It meant a lot to me to have it fixed. Going through that experience of losing a front tooth, I thought, you know what that is? I'd love to be able to help people get smiles that they just love.

My wife often tells people—friends and family and others—she'll say, "Nobody should enjoy their job as much as Allan loves his."
