A dental crown is strengthening the tooth by covering the tooth with porcelain. The way that we do this is we would need to reduce the height of the tooth by a millimeter and the sides by a millimeter. That way, we can have a millimeter of thickness of porcelain that covers the whole tooth. By doing that, it's going to make that tooth as strong as the day that the tooth erupted into the mouth.

One of the real benefits of a crown is strength. The big benefits of getting a crown are, the crown is going to be strong. It's going to withstand the biting forces. It's going to withstand the acid that's prevalent within our mouths. Caring for a dental crown is fairly simple, because we're going to treat it just like any other tooth. Brushing, flossing, mouth rinse, is good home care, and avoiding the things that destroy teeth, like chewing on ice, things like that, opening packages with your teeth. Those things are just, they're hard on teeth.
