Dental Implant Treatment

Description

Dental implant treatment replaces missing tooth roots and supports restorations like crowns, bridges, or dentures. If you have a single missing tooth, a few missing teeth in a row, or an entire arch of missing teeth, you may be a good candidate. The process can take 7-12 months to complete, but implant-supported restorations are the gold standard in tooth replacement and can last many years.

[00:00:05.02] - Allan Thomas A dental implant think of it as it's an artificial root. There are three parts to a dental implant. There's the part that gets embedded into the bone, and that's what the anchor is. That's like the artificial root. There's a second part that gets screwed into the center of that implant, and that's called an abutment. Then there is a crown that fits over the abutment. Those three parts are what are needed in order to replace a missing tooth. The beauty of dental implants is you can pick and choose. If you lose one tooth, you can fill in that space as long as there's enough bone. [00:00:47.17] The whole process, depending upon where in the mouth it is, it can take somewhere between 7–12 months in order to complete everything and get everything just the way that it should be. I have one myself. It can be a single tooth, it can be multiple teeth, it can be all of the teeth. Dental implants have really revolutionized what is possible. It's given the ability to get away from dentures. [00:01:18.11] The aftercare on dental implants is about the same as just with your natural teeth. We're trying to get rid of the bacteria from around there, and we need to make sure that the biting forces are equal. If we can take care of those two aspects of this, dental implants, they're work horses, they can go a long time and serve for years and years.
